Before you hire: 4 questions to ask

General guidance for any helical pile contractor, not a statement about this company's practices.

  • 1
Pile designWho engineers the pile layout, and will you get a stamped letter or drawings?
  • 2
Torque recordsWill they log final installation torque for every pile and give you a copy?
  • 3
Product & coatingWhich manufacturer and shaft size do they install, and is the steel galvanized?
  • 4
Permits & warrantyDo they pull permits and book inspections, and what warranty covers the work?

TKJD Contracting

TKJD Contracting is a Virginia deck and outdoor structure builder that says it has operated in Hampton Roads since 2012. Its website lists decks, fences and other outdoor structures, and says the company is licensed and insured.

Alongside its carpentry work, TKJD says it installs helical piles in-house as an alternative to concrete footings, and explains what a helical pile is and how its size and configuration depend on the design load. The company also provides 3D renderings so clients can see a project before it is built.

To discuss a project, call 757-777-7055 or email through the website. Since helical piles here are part of a deck build, ask who sizes the piles for the deck load, whether the permit drawings show them, and how installation torque is checked. Whatever the company, ask for a written scope that names the pile type, quantity, planned depth and torque target, so quotes can be compared line by line.
