Callisburg, Texas helical piles: US Helical Piers installs engineered piles for oil and gas, solar and industrial sites. Texas clay and permit notes.
Much of Texas is built on clay that moves. The state soil, Houston Black, is a shrink-swell clay of the Blackland Prairie that can crack several feet deep in a dry summer, according to the Soil Science Society of America Texas state soil guide. Seasonal wet-dry cycles lift and drop slabs, which is why foundation repair is steady work across the state.
Frost is a minor factor across most of Texas, though the Panhandle is colder and the guide says to check the local table before assuming Gulf Coast numbers apply. In Texas, the controlling design issue is usually the depth of the active clay zone, not frost. Exterior footings still must sit at least 12 inches below undisturbed ground, as in Houston's local Table R301.2(1).
