Hammond, Louisiana lists Boh Bros Construction, a piling and marine contractor with no helical piles listed. Soft soil, flood zone, cost and permit notes.
Louisiana's challenge is soft, wet ground. In the New Orleans area, the city's hazard mitigation office identifies subsidence as an ongoing hazard, driven partly by drainage and compaction of soft organic and clay soils. Across south Louisiana, shallow groundwater and weak surface soils make ordinary spread footings prone to settlement.
Helical piles can be installed in wet conditions without open excavations, reach firmer layers below soft clay, and carry load right away, which fits elevated homes, additions and docks from Lake Charles to the Northshore. Frost is not a meaningful factor, though the Louisiana Residential Code still requires footings at least 12 inches below undisturbed ground. Soil strength, groundwater and flood elevation matter more.

HomeGuide reports that helical piers cost about $2,000 to $4,000 each installed nationally, with about $3,000 typical. Louisiana projects may need longer piles to reach competent soil, which can raise costs. See our helical pier cost guide for the main cost drivers. Questions to ask:
