Pin foundation system of a precast concrete head and driven steel pins, for decks and light structures
Diamond Pier is made by Pin Foundations, Inc., a family-owned company based in Gig Harbor, Washington. The company says its pin foundation technology has been in use for over 30 years, including on projects for local, state, federal and international agencies.
Diamond Pier is not a helical pile. Each unit is a precast, diamond-shaped concrete head set at the ground surface, through which galvanized steel bearing pins are driven into undisturbed soil at angles, spreading the load without digging holes or pouring footings. It is often compared with helical piles for decks, porches, stairs, walkways, gazebos, pergolas and other light structures. According to the Diamond Pier website, pre-engineered residential models are sold through retailers, while site-specific engineered versions are used for commercial and public-use projects such as boardwalks, platforms and pavilions.
The company says pins are driven with hand-held tools and a driving bit, so the system does not require excavation equipment or concrete curing time. The DP-50 and DP-75 are sold for residential use under the International Residential Code, while engineered projects are designed site by site.
